Our Mission

As Team Balancers, our aim is to orchestrate a carefully coordinated group-effort, by the people around the world and spread awareness about Global Food Wastage and consumer issues, thus mobilize them with a view to achieve harmony by unique operational knowledge and technological skills in a way that could abate the prevalent hunger crisis.

Our team comprises of five, undergrads pursuing Civil Engineering at Thapar University. Team Balancers has a firm mission to bring back the balance in the society. As concerned human beings, we have seen a lot of issues and problems surrounding us, because of uneven distribution of wealth, resources and power. The plight of all those people who are undernourished, poor and deprived of basic necessities of life, is hard to imagine. Team Balancers along with the support of other concerned people and organizations wants to bring a change in the mindset of people for support of all those who have the right to live, eat and be happy. Our mission is to bring smiles on those faces, who right now don't even understand the meaning of it. These people are poor by their destiny, but they should not live poor due to our evils. A movement to bring the balance in all situations, to a problem not only related to food, but also gradually moving to bring a productive change in education system, health, sanitation, employment and so on.

Change is what you believe in, ergo do we!

Socializing Food

After knocking our heads for food-o-thoughts, working on divergently rich ideas, we reached a converging conclusion to link the socially-powered virtual world to the populistic real world. Knowing the power of the internet, we adhere to build a food-o-solution website/application named as 'Food|booK' which would cater to the needs of uprising 'Philanthropy'. It is a maneuvered step to feed a massive figure of 9,000,000,000 people. The website/application will be available to most operating systems. Under high surveillance information regarding world food figures would be shared, discussed upon and practical solution reached. Varied discussions on hunger crisis would form our daily cup of coffee. Disrupting the status-quo would be dealt with as equality is what we believe in. The website/application will focus upon chaining people virtually and enhance the Emotional Quotient with the help of food-o-credits. The website/application will serve the purpose of awakening the consciousness of people. Sharing information online would further enhance the concept of e-learning and factual evidences put up in the ionosphere would promote the cause. Food waste and consumer issues would be the saucer-pan of our meals. Food|book would try to uplift the communities from the debt of malnourishment with a unique concept of donating calories.

Big ideas are not formed, they develop, when they develop, they build change, until change they flourish---Food|booK.

World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that Obesity has reached epidemic proportions globally, with at least 2.8 million people dying each year as a result of being overweight or obese. According to UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), there are 870 million undernourished people in the world today. The vast majority of hungry people (98 percent) live in developing countries, where almost 15% of the population is undernourished.

13.1% of the world’s population is hungry. That’s roughly 925 million people who go undernourished on a daily basis, consuming less than the minimum 2,100 calories a day.

The unbalanced state of our society, the deteriorating condition of nourishment amongst children, unequal distribution of resources and lack of awareness amongst the masses motivated us, to work for the society, for the sake of people, for the social welfare. Happiness is something that cannot be measured as it is infinite and the positive energy, which is generated from it, is the fuel of our thought.
Spreading happiness multiplies itself many folds.
Thou art we decided to be the change that we want to see in this world.

Team Strata

Balancers trying to reduce hunger crisis, are developing a food-o-social website cum application which would elaborate the concept of social inclusion. We are availing an opportunity to the people, to be recognised for the efforts they have put, to uproot the status quo or directly or indirectly benefitted the society.

The website-cum-application will generate awareness and provide practical solutions to the issues, the ones we face today. We have made it interactive enough with videos, photos and facts. Thoughts related to food would be put in, and the use of green efficient technology would be promoted. Varied discussions aimed at finding practical solutions would be held; the power of communication of social media would be utilized to disseminate answers and solutions.

Socializing Food Credits

The credits are a number platter and we are counting them as SFC number. Socializing Food Credits is the road-o-meter to be able to be recognized for your humane inputs.

Your contribution in providing practical solutions and raising awareness to deal with the epidemic obese and malnourishment will contribute to your SFC.
Donation made much more handy and innovative, as you could donate calories which directly contribute to your SFC.

Our website/application will provide information regarding the world food structure and you could even search for your dish. With your dish in your gadget, check out it’s nutritious values and its history and even donate.
Thus, SFC accounts for your credits which one builds from gathering food-o-information, rendering solutions to world food issues and uniquely donating calories.

The concept of SFC lies in the idea that not only will it give the user the power to bring a paradigm shift at their own level, but it will also provide the user with a better edge over others in terms of social life.

The idea behind bringing the SFC into our system is to motivate people to be the change they want to see in the society. It’s a safe, secure and transparent way to address problem from multiple angles, which will uproot the status-quo.

Innovation & Donation

We want to aware people who are over-eating, that by donating even a fraction of kilocalories, they can also save lives; by limiting the consumption of those calories that are in turn posing a threat to their own lives as well! And these efforts do not go unaccounted. We appreciate these efforts and ultimately boost their social status by crediting them with SFCs.

In the fast moving modern world, there are many people who know about the crisis but do not have ample time to work for it. Thus, Food-o-donation was devised. Food|booK simplifies the concept of the donation and tries to carry it forward in terms of calories. Through this, we are also letting people know how much calories they are consuming and donating. A real-time display of cumulative calories donated and how many lives saved so far are also featured on our platform.

On our website/application a collection of different cuisines will be provided. On the go you will encounter your favorite hot dishes, which you would love to eat. But going with the present situation, one can inquire about the nutritious values and donate the amount of calories or a part of calories from his/her favorite hot dish. The amount of calories donated is directly linked with your SFC, which grows as you accelerate your efforts like a speed pedal.

Cartel of NGO’s

Balancers are in contact with various NGO’s and looking forward to form more ventures. The calories collected would be directed to NGO’s in a transparent and efficient flow, further directed to those in need. To enhance the transparency of our venture, regular feedbacks in the form of visual would be linked up to our platform. To deepen our horizon, a pool of NGO’s would be formed, which will promote an idea of community building. In a way, different NGO’s working for different specific purposes can help other NGO’s working for a cause.

Goals

Short Term → Long Term
Connect people→Make a Social platform
Educate the masses → Empower the community
Disharmony→Harmony

A Seed

Food|booK focuses on generating, operating and spreading solutions by creating a Global Alliance. The world constantly needs to have a clear idea about how serious, various issues regarding food are becoming and that is how Food|booK evolved. The innovative idea behind donation is not to feed the hungry, but it’s to uplift their status, from those poor conditions, thus, empowering poor societies. This leads to the ultimate goal of uprooting the status-quo and thereby promoting an idea to feed a massive population of 9 billion.

Team Objectives

  • To make people aware and awaken their consciousness.
  • To hand out practical solutions by connecting people.
  • Accounting and recognizing people's efforts by Socializing Food Credits.
  • To create a balanced calorie distribution system.
  • Cartel NGO's for channelizing of funds and promote transparency.

Food|booK

As any idea gets its roots from another idea, to us that another idea was the Thought For Food Challenge’13. One pleasant morning, we all were surfing on google.com, starting with as simple as Food wastage to as complicated as Sustainable Food Systems, etc; and after going through all the leading websites like fao, wfp, etc and wonderful blogs by different enthusiasts, we came across simple questions-Why do I have to go through various websites working for the same vital issues? Why aren’t some exploding-ly interesting blogs not able to reach out to people they should have? When I am ready to help, why do I have limited resources and options? Then we thought, are we capable enough to club? And the answer came YES, WHY NOT! Let us build up a platform so that people from any part of the world can discuss these issues, which are currently limited to World Summits, Conferences, etc; can give various amendments, their research and developments….All in ONE single place! Awesome, isn’t it?

The Seed
Difficulties were not far from there, but thanks to the Team effort, we strongly came up with furthermore genuinely innovative solutions! So, there is an online mega-book containing articles pertaining to Food and its issues, etc. Now, would these articles be enough to attract people? Maybe No, so we make it interactive by explaining them with Photos, Videos and Fun-facts related to it. In-between all this, thought for this All-in-One app struck us! But till now, we haven’t connected people with us, what to do? Fast and Simple, we are connecting them with leading social networking websites, facebook and twitter, which have millions of users worldwide. Now how to get people engrossed in and engaged with it? This lead to a universal Social Food Credit (SFC), which always increases! How? By posting, tweeting articles, facts, videos, photos, commenting, liking or sharing the same. But yes, there are many people who know these things, but do not have the time. Thus, food-o-donation was devised. Food|book will simplify this as a one-way-stop to donate Food in terms of Calories in the provided cuisine. Not only will they benefit others, but in a way their social life, as well as having their SFC count credited. Anyone can share food in terms of Calories, either anytime, or when you don’t just feel like eating and hence not wasting, but donating it to the ones that need it for their survival. How to make it transparent? We’ll collaborate with the NGOs and Corporates, so that a user, for instance, can have a track of how his donated calories have benefited another human being. HappinessJ, captured! Now for the advancements in Food Science, we added R&D to it, as what more can be done for future.

And this is how, Food|booK was born !

Impact of Socializing!

Today, people are feeling free in sharing their thoughts on any issue and even youth is raising their voice against social acts like violation of human rights, adverse effects of global warming & increasing population, hunger crisis, etc. These Social Networking Sites are proving themselves a boon at least in bringing thoughts of people on these social issues. Thus, we need to think upon and act, it’s an alarm for us to be aware about the society and its issues which need to be discussed openly with the society in an effort to do something about it and bring a revolution.

Panacea (Πανάκεια)

To tackle food security, we need the help of science, innovation and research can not only improve agricultural growth but make the sector more attractive to youth and encourage farmers to engage as entrepreneurs to create “lively rural communities”. These communities would aim at increasing yields with the help of organic farming and bio-fuels.
